Why: If the soil is dry, it's simple thirst. If the soil is wet and the plant still droops, the roots are rotting from overwatering.
What to do: Dry soil: water thoroughly, or stand the pot in water for 20 minutes, and it recovers in 2 to 6 hours. Wet soil: stop watering, slide the plant out and cut away brown mushy roots before repotting into fresh mix.
Peace lily not blooming
Why: Too little light is the usual reason. Shop plants are also forced into flower with growth hormones, so the first natural rebloom takes a while, and a pot that is far too big pushes leaves instead of flowers.
What to do: Move it into bright, indirect light, about a metre from an east or west window, and feed monthly in spring and summer with a fertiliser for flowering plants. Keep it slightly snug in its pot; mature plants usually bloom in spring or early summer.
White flowers turning green
Why: Natural ageing of the spathe. After a few weeks it turns greenish and then brown; the plant is not sick.
What to do: Enjoy it while it lasts, then cut the whole flower stalk off as low as you can once it looks tired. This keeps the plant putting energy into new leaves and future flowers.

Why: Chlorine, fluoride and salts from hard tap water, dry heated air, or repeated cycles of letting it dry out until it faints.
What to do: Water with filtered or settled water at room temperature, flush the pot with plenty of water every couple of months, and water before it collapses. Trim brown tips at an angle with clean scissors.

Why: An older outer leaf yellowing now and then is normal. Several at once points to soggy soil, a badly root-bound pot or too much direct sun.
What to do: Cut yellow leaves at the base, check whether roots are circling the pot or the soil smells sour, and adjust watering or repot accordingly.

Why: Direct sun on the large, thin leaves, especially on a south windowsill.
What to do: Move it away from direct sun to a bright but shaded spot. Scorched leaves won't turn green again, so cut the worst ones off.

Spring and summer are the peace lily's thirsty months. Water about every 4 days, when the top couple of centimetres feel dry, mist the leaves in hot weather and feed monthly. This is also when mature plants bloom, so give them their brightest indirect light now and remove spent flower stalks at the base.

In autumn and winter water less often, but don't let it keep fainting next to a radiator, since that's when leaf tips brown fastest. Keep it between 18 and 25 °C, away from cold drafts and chilly window glass, and wipe the dust off the leaves so they catch what little winter light there is. Feeding can pause until spring.
How to propagate
Peace lilies are propagated by division, since they don't grow from stem cuttings. In spring, tip the plant out and look for natural crowns, each with its own fan of leaves. Pull or cut them apart so every piece has 2 to 3 leaves and a good bunch of roots.
Pot the divisions into pots only slightly larger than their root balls, water well and keep them out of direct sun. They often droop for the first few days while the roots settle, and usually flower again within a year once they fill their new pots.
